What is keratin? Keratin is a natural repairing substance which comprises approximately 88% of your hair. It penetrates the hair repairing internal damage & coats the hair cuticle preventing further damage. Keratin is high in sulphur & amino acid cysteine, which provides strength, elastine & insolubility to the hair. These qualities are fundamental to the strong structural role keratin often plays in nature. It is the main protective substance already present in our hair, skin & nails.
Can I apply the Brazilian keratin treatment on damaged hair that has been coloured? Yes, hair will be transformed to beautiful deeply conditioned hair. The treatment repairs, rebuilds & hydrates hair providing a soft & silky effect. Always remember it is best to colour first before applying the Brazilian treatment.
How long after the first application should I do the treatment again? You can treat your hair with any of our Brazilian keratin treatments as many times as you wish until the desired straightening effect is achieved, but we usually say to wait 2 weeks before you apply again.
For how long does straightening effect last after treatment? The straightening effect lasts up to three to six months, depending on how many Brazilian treatments have been applied previously, & also the care you take by using the right aftercare products & avoiding salt water, such as the rain, sea water etc. However, we have found that the formaldehyde free treatments do not last as long as those products that do contain this ingredient, but this has no effect on the result which is just as good as if a formaldehyde containing product had been used. As treatments are repeated the treatment will begin to last longer.
How many times do I need to apply the Brazilian keratin treatment for a good straightening effect? The need for more treatments will depend on the hair texture & how much care is provided in maintaining the treatment. As already mentioned, as applications are repeated, the longer the treatment will begin to last & fewer applications will be required.
What is the most usual effect achieved after the Brazilian keratin treatment? From the first application your hair will be smoother, straighter, shinier & in superb condition. Blow drying & styling will take half the time to do.
Does this product irritate the eyes or cause fumes? It is advisable that the application takes place in a well ventilated area & gloves are worn to protect hands, especially in the case of the non formaldehyde free Brazilian treatments. But we do have some treatments where there are fewer or no fumes & have no effect on the eyes when applying. These products are: Rio Chocolate, Rio BTX, Tropical Coconut & Forest Protein.
How much product should I use? On average a minimum of 40ml for the non formaldehyde free treatments & 70ml for the formaldehyde free treatments will be required for a full head application on hair no longer than shoulder length & of medium density. Never should the hair be overloaded with the treatment when applying thinking a better result will be achieved. On the contrary, too much product applied will leave hair heavy & difficult to manage the application process when it comes to blow drying and straightening, & creates excessive fumes especially with those products that contain formaldehyde.
Can I apply the product on the same day on which I have coloured, bleached/lightened or straightened my hair? Yes, but not knowing for sure if there is any salt ingredient present in whatever product is used in the colouring product it is best to do the Brazilian keratin treatment after colouring.
My hair has been treated with products containing tioglicolato of ammonia & pyro gallic acid, can I use Brazilian treatment on my hair? Yes, as there are no incompatibilities for hair which has already been treated with other straighteners products.
Will my hair become damaged in anyway after a straightening treatment? No, on the contrary the Brazilian keratin straightening treatment will improve hair condition leaving it soft, shiny & far easier to manage.
Can I do this treatment while pregnant? It is not recommended to use formaldehyde containing Brazilian treatments while pregnant, nursing or around small children as when it comes to blow drying & straightening the hair the fumes can cause discomfort.
